Thanh Luong Vegetarian in Minnetonka

Thanh Luong is a vegetarian Vietnamese restaurant that opened in Minnetonka in February 2024. While the menu contains some dairy and eggs, the majority of the dishes are vegan or can be made vegan.

It’s nestled in a strip of businesses with plenty of parking available. They offer table service with a fast casual feel — a server brought us drinks, took our order, and brought our food, and then we paid at the counter when we were done.

Three egg rolls cut in half with a side of vegan fish sauce

Egg Rolls with Vegan Fish Sauce

Since they have a wide array of options, many of which I’ve never heard of or tried as a vegan, we started simple with the egg rolls appetizer. They were perfectly crispy and delicious, though a bit oily for my liking. The vegan fish sauce works well with the egg rolls, and I love that they have vegan fish sauce in general.

Orange Tofu

I rarely enounter a vegan dish with orange sauce, so I had to try the Orange Tofu which comes with jalapeños, white rice, cucumbers, and lightly cooked broccoli. The tofu had a crisp fry on the outside and was chewy in the center. The sauce had a good balance between not being too thick nor too thin, and while I wouldn’t have minded a little more orange flavor, I enjoyed the subtlety. I would order this again without hesitation.

Hainamese Chicken Rice

The menu states that the Hainamese Chicken Rice is only available on the weekends, and we were fortunate that they consider Friday as part of the weekend because the chicken was fantastic. My guess is that the patties are soy-based because they had a shredded type texture, and the ginger sauce that comes on it is rich and complex. Like the orange sauce, the ginger wasn’t too punchy but you can tell it’s there. The chicken rice pairs well with it, too.

I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed everything at Thanh Luong, and I look forward to working my way through the menu. So far, I’ve got my eye on the Salted Fish Fried Rice, Vietnamese Udon, and Fried Lemongrass Chili Tofu.

If you haven’t been, I hope you can go and support them soon!
